Case Study
THE CHALLENGE
Geek Ventures faced the dual challenge of building awareness in a crowded space for the firm and its Fund I, while also elevating its founder and general partner, Ihar Mahaniok, as a credible voice in the VC ecosystem. The firm’s focus on investing in immigrant founders positioned it uniquely in the market, but it also required education and storytelling to help media and entrepreneurs understand the mission and opportunity.
THE GOAL
Geek Ventures partnered with BAM to grow both the firm’s and Ihar’s brand awareness and market share among immigrant founders and early-stage technology startups. The objective was to position Geek Ventures as a premier VC firm and to establish Ihar as a bold, authentic thought leader in the venture community.
THE STRATEGY
BAM implemented a proactive and trend-driven PR strategy combining hard news, thought leadership, and ongoing newsjacking to amplify Geek Ventures’ visibility:
Fund I Announcement: Drove national and industry coverage around the launch of Geek Ventures Fund I to introduce the firm’s unique focus on immigrant founders.
Thought Leadership & Newsjacking: Positioned Ihar as an expert through commentary and rapid response insights tied to trending VC and startup news, including commentary on Instacart’s IPO and offering advice to immigrant founders navigating the U.S. VC and startup landscape.
Founder Branding: Developed a bold, personal narrative for Ihar that emphasized his immigrant founder experience and mission-driven approach to investing, helping humanize the firm’s story and attract widespread media attention.
